Miss Utah Commits to Promote Breast Cancer Awareness as Komen BigWig

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2017

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). 

Miss Utah 2017, JessiKate Riley is joining the Susan G. Komen organization of Utah to raise funds and awareness to end breast cancer.

She’s joined the effort as a Komen BigWig. This means she’ll be wearing a pink wig out in public as she fundraises for local programs and national research. Of her participation she said,

“As Miss Utah, I’m a part of the largest scholarship provider for women in the world! It felt natural to be part of BigWigs, another organization, and cause that empowers women.”

Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit while providing real-time help to those facing the disease. It has set a Bold Goal to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50 percent in the U.S. by 2026. Komen was founded in 1982 by Nancy G. Brinker, who promised her sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would end the disease that claimed Suzy’s life. The Utah Chapter is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in the local community.
