It is one of the most coveted crowns in all of the pageant world. Miss America serves as not only the “Super Bowl” of pageants in the United States but also as the largest provider of women’s scholarships in the world. With so much on the line, contestants must pay attention to every single detail as they hope to walk away with the title.
A crucial detail is the headshot contestants submit for the national pageant. This is the first time a judge will see the contestant. The headshots of the 51 contestants will also be available on the website for years to come.

10. Miss Utah, JessiKate Riley
This top is great for any headshot. It is different from some of the more basic tops seen this year. The black and silver sparkle is youthful and playful but still chic.
It is important to note the neutral color palette is a huge reason this top is successful. If this same top was in a bolder color, say green or blue, it would not work as well. The top would become the focus instead of her. It also helps that she choose a top with black sparkle as it pairs well with her black hair.
I believe simple stud earrings would have worked better. However, the statement earrings keep within the color palette of the top. They also help guide the eye from the shoulder detailing to her face. (Read: How to Choose the Right Accessories)
With a bolder top, simple hair and makeup were an essential choice to prevent the look from being overwhelming.
