Night Two Preliminary and Special Award Winners of the 2019 Miss Utah Scholarship Competition

Miss Greater Salt Lake, Miss Millard County, and Miss Deseret received preliminary awards during the second night of the Miss Utah Scholarship Competition held at the Eccles Theater. Two candidates were also awarded STEM scholarships from doTERRA following a separate interview held earlier today.

Talent Preliminary Winner

Miss Greater Salt Lake, Dexonna Talbot performed a ballet variation en pointe titled “Don Quixote.” She was the recipient of a merit scholarship to Ballet West for four years. She is a student at the University of Utah studying ballet performance. She will receive a $100 scholarship.

Evening Wear/Social Impact Statement Winners

Miss Millard County, Tyra Sorenson and Miss Deseret, Sasha Sloan tied in the preliminary evening wear competition. They will both receive a $100 scholarship.

Tyra Sorenson

Miss Millard County, Tyra Sorenson received the evening gown preliminary award and will receive a $100 scholarship. Tyra was escorted by her Little Miss, Paityn Taylor. She’s a freshman at Snow College pursuing a bachelor’s of science. Her social impact initiative is “Accept Yourself — Confidence is Power.”

 

Sasha Sloan

Miss Deseret, Sasha Sloan also received an evening gown preliminary award and will receive a $100 scholarship. Sasha was escorted by her Little Misses, Kennedy Harris, and Kasidy Wood. She’s a student at Brigham Young University studying political science. Her social impact initiative is “Girls Empowered.”

doTERRA STEM Scholarships

For the second year, doTERRA awarded two $500 scholarships to candidates that have excelled in STEM-related fields. Earlier today, eligible candidates participated in a private interview with a separate panel of judges.

Miss Utah County, Anna Sun is a masters student at the University of Utah with a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Denver. Miss Deseret, Sasha Sloan is a student at Brigham Young University majoring in political science with aspirations to become a political news analyst.
