Miss Payson and Miss Spanish Fork received preliminary awards for the highest scores in the Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit and Talent competitions during the second night of The Miss Utah 2018 Scholarship Pageant.
Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit Preliminary Winner
Miss Payson, Kaisley Theobald, was the preliminary Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit winner. She received a $100 scholarship for her award. Kaisley is studying nursing at Southern Utah University. Her platform is called, “Get Out and Get Activity.”
Talent Preliminary Winner
Miss Spanish Fork, Dexonna Talbot, was the preliminary Talent winner for her ballet performance of, “Paquita.” She received a $100 scholarship for her award. Dexonna is studying ballet at the University of Utah. Her platform is called, “Servesteem.”
Miss America Day of Service
On April 7, 2018, the Miss America Organization held a national day of service for titleholders across the country. The Miss Utah 2018 contestants raised funds for Primary Children’s Hospital and worked on projects for its patients. Miss King’s Peak, Kamri Campbell, received a $200 scholarship for her fundraising efforts.
doTERRA STEM Scholarships
For the first year, doTERRA awarded two $500 scholarships to contestants that have excelled in STEM fields. Earlier in the week, eligible contestants participated in a private interview separate from the Miss Utah interview. Miss Bear River Valley, Baylee Haws, and Miss Utah County, Ansley Funes received these awards.
Soles4Souls Humanitarian Award
Each contestant was asked to gather 1,000 pairs of used shoes as a fundraiser for the nonprofit Soles4Souls. Miss Provo, Laken Hemsley, raised 14,617 pairs of shoes and received a humanitarian trip with the Soles4Souls organization.
The third and final night of preliminary competition takes place Friday at 7 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre.
