During the final evening of the Miss Utah Competition, the Miss Utah Organization honored Leean Gray with the Miss Utah Volunteer of the Year Award for 29 years of service to the young women that participated in the Miss Utah program.
Her involvement began in 1990 when she volunteered as a hostess at Miss Utah. After several years, Leean became the Hostess Chair and oversaw all of the hostesses involved with Miss Utah week. By 2004, she was hooked and agreed to take on the role of serving as Miss Utah’s traveling companion and business manager.
Fifteen years later, and she has now driven hundreds of thousands of miles with 15 Miss Utahs. While some might see this role as one of the more fun and exciting positions on the Miss Utah Board, it requires a lot from one individual: they must be selfless, punctual, organized, and patient to make sure Miss Utah has many successful appearances.
Leean has served with her whole heart and becomes a close friend and confidante for each Miss Utah. The Miss Utah Board is sad to see Leean retire after going above and beyond in this role. She has been the heart and soul of the organization for so long and will be greatly missed by many throughout the state.
Leean grew up in Provo, Utah and raised four children. She now has ten grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. When not taking Miss Utah to her next event, Leean can be found caring for the elderly in her neighborhood, spending time with her grandkids, and serving at the Provo Temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
